Kid Lit Blog Hop #36

Welcome back to the Kid Lit Blog Hop #36

Today I have a 100% toddler approved book to review for you.

We happened upon Chris Haughton books initially after we read a review about

This one is particularly rib tickling. It is an awesome read aloud. I thought it was so good and could never ever be topped.....

Then along came.....

Description from Amazon:
(Because it sums it up so beautifully without me messing it up, he he)

A brand new picture book about a beautiful bird, an unquenchable desire and plans gone awry...Four friends, three big and one little, are out for a walk. Suddenly, they spot it - a beautiful bird perched high in a tree! They simply MUST have it and - SHH! - they have a PLAN. So they tip-toe, tip-toe very slowly, nets poised - "Ready one...ready two...ready three...GO!" But, at the turn of the page, we find a ridiculous bunch of very tangled characters and a blissfully oblivious bird, flying away. One hilarious foiled plan after another and it's clear that this goofy trio CANNOT catch that elusive birdie!
But the littlest of this group, a quiet spectator up until now, knows that a bit of kindness and sweetness can go a lot further than any elaborate scam. Will his three friends follow his gentle lead or will they get themselves into even more trouble?

Well, you will just have to read it to find out.

From our first read, the 2.5 year old was absolutely chuckling. By the end, the words 'again', 'again' were said, several more times. Chris Haughton is just pure genius. His illustrations are so simple, but absolutely unique. With only a few but very vibrant and contrasting colours, he manages to captivate his audience, imparting his message with very few words.  However, the very few words he uses, make for great sound effects. We all know children love sound effects in read aloud books. I read this to our play group and every single toddler sat and listened.

That is the sign of one truly engaging read. Check it, you won't be disappointed.... Now off you hop folks....

  3. This sounds like a wonderful book for toddlers. I always found that lovely colours and words with great sound effects were the style of books that captivated my kids when they were little.
